The real issue is the community became obsessed over the stomp over the crossover aspect as well as became obsessed with the spectacle mindset
Liu kang still fights no differently than before even as he became a god. Folks take a fatality he never does in canon as something he does 24/7 when he never does it even once
Dante beat Casual universe busters but nobody demanding him to nuke planet and stars in fight because its not something many are asking for or something that really fit a DMC fight
Liu Kang vs Jago still works but KI is a dead franchise as of now
