DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

For sure.

Although, I'm not the one making the profiles, but I will try my best (to remember) to let you know if there's ever a profile on Beelstarmon in a Digimon profiles CRT 👍. I'll tag you if that happens.
My team is doing a blog for a revamp of lucario vs Renamon, is there anything I should know before that?

Give Renamon the feat where she breaks Orochimon's head and then scale her to T1 BS k thx teehee :^)
I can bring that up sure, we're soft composting both so Lucario is getting his feat of fighting dialga and palkia in mystery dungeon, matching the Legends protag who beats Giratina in the same fight, and Masters Lucario beating Giratina

Atm the general consensus is that Lucario beats up to Taomon in base, needs Mega to beat Taomon, and then loses to Saluyamon

It was a joke due to massive outliers.

Dare I hear what stats are atm looking like for Lucario and Kyubimon? Also for Mega Lucario?

Next you'll tell me that renamon being able to harm and potentially beat the royal knights, Olympus XII, and chronomon in the games are also outliers : T

we don't have solid numbers yet, just a rough idea of where they'd end up. Lucario and Taomon end up in Low Complex multi while Sakuyamon is either complex or high complex, but again we need to do some work before solidifying these ranks

So Blade's appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine is still gonna be the most relevance he got in the MCU for awhile yet?

Also this news isn't surprising at all, it's been over 4 years after Blade was teased at the end of The Eternals (alongside Black Knight) and confirmed to be getting his own MCU film. DP&W did raise peeps hopes, which sucks for those who still truly thought Blade was eventually gonna get his solo MCU role after two delays already at the time (plus rumours Captain Britain might debut in reboot Blade's film).
BLADE CANT HAVE SHITM<EDONWJDPWJJDPEFJPE:EWFFWF
Marvel stays disrespecting the character that paved the way for major Marvel movies and then the MCU (It's doesn't help he suffers from the similar world building and narrative issues as the X-men in the comics, when it comes to self contained stories Vs shared universe crossovers, just replace mutants with vampires).

He said it himself, there will be only one Blade
Wesley Snipes is a legend but I don't envy Mahershala Ali with the expectations on his shoulders (even with Wesley's blessings), the constant delays that mess with his role schedule and his only major role in the MCU being the voice of Blade Knight in Marvel Zombies on Disney+ which is a spin-off of What if...? Yikes!

It's insane to me that Mahershala Ali was in his mid 40s when he was first announced to be Blade (2019) in the MCU and now he'll be 52 next month (aging gracefully btw).

Also it's all but been confirmed that Wesley Snipes will be in Avengers Doomsday so...

There will be only one Blade indeed.

Isn’t like Weasley Snipes like a asshole?

Besides the recent CRT (updating Digimon physiology/data manipulation/hellfire) and needing to update outdated profiles (which is including Tamers)? I don't think so.

You're most likely good to go.

Although if we're talking about tiers/cosmology stuff based on wiki standards, that's just not decided yet (even if there are ideas on how to approach it).

Because, as I like to joke about it, Digimon is famously (or infamously) a consistently inconsistent verse given the many MANY writers and entries even if they share the same multiverse.

I've Finished Part 1 of FOTN and man that was some good shit

I mean as long as Sakuyamon or even Kuzuhamon has something to scale off of it should be fine, because it's a whole thing in Time Stranger that if Kuzuhamon hadn't had her powers nulled she alone would have been able to take down Junomon's gusrd, which includes digimon like ClavisAngemon and SlashAngemon

Here’s my schizo idea:

The animations are getting worse because the community at large is way more focused on scaling, hype moments and aura over the actual quality of the fights.

You just gotta have a few quotes from whatever media the character is from and the fans will eat that up. Instead of actually having good character moments, nothing in the KS era comes close to snake vs Sam’s “your pretty good” sequence. Which was in season 2.

Modern fights are just the characters making cheap references while doing completely out of character things. And then the analysis will talk about dimensions. It’s the show following the community.

Yes I’m bitter.
Yeah I've been saying for a while that fights are theme park rides that treat each fighters movements as a checklist to go through rather than creating an engaging back and forth of abilities as the fight progresses.

It more or less started when they started using storyboards. That sequence in Dante VS Clive as Dante riddles off a barrage of King Cerberus moves is the most intricate choreography we've had in years, and that wasn't even in the storyboards.

Ruby vs Maka was a great showcase of how far the animators have come in terms of 3D fights, but Dante vs Clive coming pretty shortly after that showed how much more room there is to improve, but even that can't save a shitty storyboard.

This is gonna sound cruel, but the issue with modern 3d episodes is they focused more in the visual effects over the choreography. They really boil down to "characters shoots lasers, big boom, and they move really fast". The h2h elements also look bad since its just them mindlessly swing blades, kicks, or fist over actual martial arts.

This is why even Torrian's older episodes hit different even with the outdated graphics. Since he puts more focus on the actual substance of the fight over making it look pretty. That and he is frankly more creative than the writers in how he handles character movesets. And is more skilled in handling complex movements and is apperently knowledgable in irl martial arts (TJ vs Balrog and Snake vs Sam). If Dante vs Bayo were down today, it'll just be like Chief vs Slayer with how generic they will clash their weapons.

Best comparision will be Raiden vs Excalibur and Raiden vs Wolverine. The former's choreography is really just "they swing blades super fast and jump pretty high in buildings" while the latter has a more detailed exhanged in blows (its hard to describe in words but just watch the two and you will get what I mean).

Moro and the guy who did GvS3 are legit the only animators who match the "vibe" Torrian's animations had. This is not to throw shade on the others but they just hit different imo.
Quite literally my exact thoughts.

Like if Iron Man used his Hulk Buster suit in modern DB that shit would throw two punches and a unibeam attack before getting destroyed, exactly like the god buster.

Torrian made the Hulk Buster a badass turning point in the battle that finally let Tony contend with Lex on equal terms and even break his shields, which had been an issue the whole fight. He did all that, plus a kick ass one liner and character moment.

...Who even writes fight choreographics? It cant be all on storyboardist? Just the episode writer?

Wasnt the storyboarder also a death battle reactor back then? He had vids on these back in like early seasons of the show, then deleted them since

I don't know. I'm guessing there are a few writers who give the storyboard artist some plot points, but whatever the realty may be, neither are good at consistently creating unique intricate choreography.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around giving fcking Torrian a fcking storyboard.
