from lurking around, me noticed that DB readers are much more critical compared to Manhwa readers, which is a good thing.
They seem to throw around the term "peak" as if it doesnt mean anything, or excuse terrible arcs like no other. If you disagree with them, they come up with arguments like "Billions of people read it, so it must be peak"
Some saue for guys who dont know how manhwas numbers work.
""" What a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that the webtoon industry suffers from fake views, likes, and subscriptions, and all of that is free. The way views are counted doesn’t really help either. Solo Leveling might be the only one where the numbers actually ""match"" its real popularity.
Lookism for example got 10 billion views, I highly doubt 1 billion people actually read it. It’s probably more like 10 million webtoon fans overall. Out of those, maybe 5 million read the first few chapters and then dropped it. Then like 2.5 million stuck around until around chapter 200, but dropped it once the whole 'gang' stuff started. The rest probably caught up to the latest chapters. And then you’ve got maybe 100,000 hardcore fans who keep rereading or jumping to certain chapters. And finally, like 1,000 powerscaling nerds who go through Lookism 100 times a day just to back up their arguments.
Disclaimer: I made up these numbers, but the proportions feel about right. That 1% of hardcore fans is probably responsible for a big chunk of Webtoon’s total views just from constantly rechecking chapters for debates.
That being said, Lookism has been on Webtoon since late 2014, so 10 billion total views over that time actually makes sense. I mean, there are YouTube videos like Baby Shark with 13 billion views and that’s just one video since 2016. Lookism has over 400 chapters.
If you asked 8 random people, only one might even know what Lookism is, haha.
TL;DR Webtoons big risk """"
