Metal Gear Discussion Thread

So, about the MGS3 High 8-C RPG-7 feat, Volgin, Naked Snake and others will scale right? The former can take on rockets head on and the latter beats him in a fight prior to the Shagohod battle.

The feat seems like it’s gonna get downgraded cause in the Delta trailer it’s just regular fragmentation rather than pulverization

I could've sworn there was a longer version of the clip, and it just looked like a block of stone rather than having steel as well

Maybe I'm underestimating the remake one but it does look like it's significantly less

The remake gutted a good feat

Konami will pay

MFTL Raiden?

MFTL Raiden?
Looks good though I heard the value could be higher

MFTL Raiden?
How did you even get this already? 😭

MFTL Raiden?
Ngl I've had that on my mind for a long while. Do we have any confirmation these are real EMPs?

Real EMPs, as opposed to what? Fake EMPs?
As opposed to "not-EMPs." Like, something that looks like a laser but actually isn't.

Obviously though, if we had a statement that Raptors use EMPs that should be enough. I feel like I remember Doktor mentioning that but I don't remember.

Not really the same thing. EMPs, by definition, are a very specific thing. Any gun that shoots some sort of energy, isnt inherently lightspeed because a random beam can be a bunch of shit, whether it's plasma, light, or just some abstract energy.

An "electromagnetic pulse" is kinda already telling us what it is through that alone, and unlike "lasers", which has evolved to encompass far more beyond what the acronym actually stands for in modern time, such a thing isnt really the case for EMPs.

Like you can think of numerous examples where laser gets used to describe any beam-like attack, but can you do the same for EMPs or even things like sonic or soundwaves?

Theyre literally called EM waves and fry circuitry.

I'm fine with taking EM wave statements at face value, I just haven't seem them myself recently. I do vaguely remember hearing them on my own playthrough in the past though. Do you have access to scans of these statements?

Yeah? But like, whats up with the sudden scrutiny? What else would the EMP wave that fries electronics be if not an EMP?

It literally isnt the same as any beam ever being likened to a laser, not just anything can do what it does.

Maybe electricity (which is slower than light). It honestly kind of does look like electricity tbh. Not every "energy-looking" thing that disables electronics has to be EMP. But again, if you have scans saying it's EMP, it would be kind of dumb to dispute that they are EMP.

Emps usually do? If you look up what an irl EMP looks like, they actually look shockingly similar. Theyre just usually invisible due to the spectrum theyre on.

Theyre literally in the blog why even ask...

The justification in the blog? He just says it "does the exact same thing as one of Raiden’s own grenades which are indeed stated to be EMPs?" I'm a bit unsure of using that as evidence because both being "purple omnidirectional wavy energy that disables electronics" doesn't seem to be a valid reason to consider both EMPs, but maybe I'm just being unreasonable. Plus, to me, this and this don't quite look the same tbh, but maybe that's just perspective.

Also I've done this feat, it's around 14c, it's a bit of a more grounded version tbh.

You need to take into account surface area, and subtract the amount of energy the shuttle itself took in her stead. Also I'm pretty sure we're told what type of craft it is, iirc it was a Mercury Capsule, which has a landing mass of 1200kg.

I heard the discussion and it was not really specified.

And how do I take account surface area if I have no data about it?

Well, the capsule would be dusted if it entered at Mach 36 back to the Earth.
This is literally an irl thing. They're made to mitigate all that and even irl Mercury Capsules have withstood coming in at over 8/kms. And it wasn't dusted anyway, given they pried her from it when it crashed out into the ocean.

12.5km/s is also kind of odd? Do they say that?
Mercury Capsules usually have a re-entry velocity of 7.7-8.3km/s speed, but assuming it was 12.5km/s due to the mishap, 12.5km/s and at 1200kg, it would have an energy of 22 tons of TNT, but they don't hit the ground at that speed, they mitigate velocity in the descent.
What is there to absorb?
The energy.
She's not taking it all. Saying she is would be like saying a person in a car crash takes all the energy of the collision. They do not. The very vehicle they're in takes the vast majority, the only way she would take all the energy is if she was tied to the outside right where it impacts and it just so happened to retain all the velocity it had coming in. None of this is true because they say as much.

The feat might legit be 9-B if you're lucky, it's mostly a feat for radiation and heat given it malfunctioned.
If you want to calc a feat that might be worthwhile, calc Peace Walker or Zeke's leg strength.
You don't use young modulus....
